Meet Claire Jones
Claire Jones is a 62-year-old domestic violence cancer survivor who is living on the edge of full-blown myeloma, which is a rare blood cancer. She is a Buddhist practitioner of over 33 years. Every day, Claire colors her heart with joy through her Buddhist chant, spreading and sending peace, light, and love throughout the world to all living beings.
Claire does this through her call to action: “Get ahead of life before life gets ahead of you!”
She and her daughter, Amaranthia Sepia, are the co-founders of Sista Creatives Rising (SCR), a 100% virtual project (not a non-profit or LLC!) and concept founded by the Black, invisibly disabled mother-daughter duo. SCR’s mission is to help creative, marginalized women and marginalized genders gain accessibility and visibility in the arts to facilitate personal healing. Claire has been in remission from B-cell lymphoma since 2022, after a 50% chance of paralysis caused by a massive spinal tumor. She is in the 1% to walk again after neuro-spine surgery and walks with a cane. Now, in preventative cancer treatment for smoldering myeloma, Claire consistently wears masks as a life choice to combat contracting dangerous viruses that could further complicate her and accelerate her compromised immune system.
These featured works are Claire's spiritual “Sun Angels,” inspired by the New Hampshire sun and beautiful, wide-open skies. They serve as a vehicle for Claire to stay grounded in the light of her mantra, “ClarityIsJustSoHip!: Clarity, Awareness, Presence, Acceptance and Gratitude,” the system she developed to elevate a life that was once bombarded by crisis, drama, and chaos until severe menopause & cancer and the near loss of her mobility forced her to face the delusions and illusions that stymied and stifled good fortune and all forward momentum. Claire's dynamic, colorful artworks reflect her inner connection to spirit during 2015-2025 as she navigated the reality of living on the cusp of multiple myeloma.
An immigrant, high school dropout, and domestic violence survivor, Claire has followed her dream, from Barbados’ island shores, to self-actualize as an artist and college graduate. Claire's mission is to help marginalized women activate their light in the middle of chaos by recognizing the causes & effects of intergenerational trauma. Her early days as an immigrant were spent living in New York City, where she completed her GED, eventually finding her way to the halls of higher education. In 1999, Claire graduated from Mount Holyoke as a Frances Perkins Scholar with a degree in Liberal Arts. Claire believes “Clarity” is much needed during these difficult times. Her vision is to use her journey to help provide a pathway for those searching for something similar.
Claire intends to continue creating works that transport viewers to a place of peace and clarity, even if for a brief moment. In the process, she hopes to create a movement so others can share their stories about why “ClarityIsJustSoHip!” to them!
